NaPoWriMo Day 8
The Mules' 1-Step Program
Sometimes I like to talk to the
town drunk. Maybe because the whiskey
on his breath makes me feel better
about myself. We take long walks
along the river front, and he
tells me how great his life used to be. How
every night before he goes to sleep, he
prays that he'll freeze to death
on some bench, but every morning
wakes to this incessant braying.

On first reading I took the opening to mean, "Sometimes I like to talk to the TOWN drunk" (or "Sometimes I like to the town when drunk"). And I liked that.
(Long-overdue) Thanks for linking to my blog. This was flattering... and reciprocated.
Cheers,
Stu
